Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye arrive on Proton
In 2021 the two biggest third-party anti-cheats announced Linux support that works with Proton. The catch: developers have to switch it on.
Epic announced Easy Anti-Cheat support for Linux, Mac and Steam Deck on 23 September 2021 (Epic Online Services). BattlEye titles on Proton were reported in December 2021 by GamingOnLinux, which notes developers must contact BattlEye to enable it. Valve documents the developer-side steps in its Steamworks Proton docs.
Why it still depends on the game
The technology is shared, but the decision belongs to each publisher. Today, Elden Ring and Halo: The Master Chief Collection use Easy Anti-Cheat and are listed as Supported, while other titles from the same vendors are blocked.
